Feature Article Apt Pupils If you are talking to your doctor about laser surgery, make sure you discuss the size of your pupils. The reason? Patients with large pupils are more likely to suffer side effects after LASIK surgery than patients with smaller pupils. According to University of Rochester research, most LASIK problems occur when physicians zap too small a section of the eye during laser surgery. At night, when pupils get bigger, they can expand past the portion of the eye where vision was corrected, triggering halos, glare, and other night-vision problems. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ASK THE DOCTOR SPONSOR BJ Crystal Gifts - An exquisite collection of affordable crystal collectibles, and Swarovski crystal figurines. Ask the Doctor Talking with the experts Question from Bill Madjette: Half of the inside of my eye is totally red, it probably bled, theres no sensation of pain or itching or blurred vision. I would like to know the cause of it and possibly the treatment please. Dr. Webber: It sounds like a Sub conjunctival Hemorrhage which is bleeding under the conjunctiva. It will resolve on it's own. I suggest that you avoid bending, alcohol and aspirin use cool compresses. ----------------------------------------------------------------- 3. News Briefs Drugs and Contact Lenses Researchers at the University of Florida have found a way to embed drugs within the inside surface of a contact lens. The enhanced contacts will be used to treat eye diseases like glaucoma, which need small, steady doses of medication. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Newsletter Courtesy of CLE Contact Lenses http://www.clecontactlenses.com/cgi-bin/ad/t.cgi\?vu ----------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Preventative Medicine Check Your Vision If you're over 40 and get headaches or eye strain from reading, you may have PRESBYOPIA: loss of the ability to focus sharply for near vision. To tell if you do, open a phone book and choose some numbers. Move the book away until you can focus on the numbers. If you must extend your arms fully or bend them only slightly to see clearly, you're probably ready for reading glasses or bifocals. See an optometrist or ophthalmologist for a more precise test. ----------------------------------------------------------------- CLASSIFIED AD Big profits come from a large e-zine list.
