Reading and Contacts — Our Acuvue Bifocals
Email This Post
Do you wear contact lenses and need reading glasses as well?
This is not uncommon, but there is an alternative. Bifocal contact lenses are becoming more popular than ever, especially now that Acuvue by Johnson & Johnson has created the Acuvue Bifocal, a two-week disposable lens that is quite affordable.
Check with your eye care professional to find out if bifocal lenses will work for you.
And speaking of reading, we at CLE have been involved in a heated debate over a list that I found on the Internet.
The list was published back in 1998 by the Modern Library and it compiles the “100 Best” novels of all time. Of course, the rankings are only the opinions of one association, but the purpose of the list is to get people to think and talk about great books. Of course, the list has sparked controversy here and elsewhere as many of us have strong opinions about what did and didn’t belong on the list and what was “inexcusably” left off. Other groups responded with rival lists of 100 best novels. But we think that those who were put off by the list missed the point. Of course there is no objective standard for the number one best novel or the next ninety-nine. But the dialog that the attempted compilation starts is a valuable way to get us exposed to books that are widely esteemed for their contributions to culture.
With that in mind, we offer the top twenty-five from the Modern Library’s list. How many have you read? For the rest of the list, see http://www.randomhouse.com/modernlibrary/100best.html.

I will have to add bifocal contact lenses to the long list of things that I have absolutely no idea how they work. I understand the glasses - top part for near-sighted, bottom part for far-sighted. But how do the contacts work?
And for my money, The Great Gatsby belongs at #1 and 1984 at #2.
My father wears reading glasses and would never consider contact lenses. Now I will definitely tell him about the acuvue bifocal product. Thanks
Both of my parents have been wearing reading glasses for years. they must have 15 pairs each between there house, car, my house etc.. They think they are saving money but after reading this they might be wrong. I will definately let them know. Thanks
Bifocal contact lenses are well worth it! I used to leave my reading glasses all over the place. Sometimes I would need to run out to CVS to buy a pair when I got to work because I would them on the train. Now no more worries.
I can’t believe “The Audacity of Hope” is not on the list.
I had no idea that there were bifocal contact lenses.
This is a great evolution in contact lenses and I definitely plan on trying acuvue bifocal contact lenses.
Great reading list although I would add some modern reading like James Patterson.
Anyone have any commentary on excessive reading with acuvue bifocals and conventional bifocal reading glasses ? I’ve found the acuvue bifocals to be more “natural”. I don’t see the sides of my reading glasses when I wear my contacts to read.
Grapes of wrath, Great Gatsby, 1984 truly great books but my favorite read of all (call me hokey), The Good Book (The Bible) for all of us NY’rs ! Not one you can sit and read all the way through but where else can you get a history book, a mystery book, a biography, a song book and more all in one. Read it with reading glasses, or acuvue bifocal contacts. Thanks for the great post.
I tried the acuvue bifocal contact lenses and they are quite good. They do take a little while to get used to them as it is a different experience than I was used to. They’re not for everyone but my experience with them has been positive.
Thanks for the information. Bifocal glasses were one of the great inventions for those uf us that like to read. Now with these acuvue bifocal contact lenses its another great invention and not only can you see and read without changing lenses squinting badly but you can look good doing it!
You forgot the the book the alchemist by paulo coehlo, that was a definite great and easy read.
I recently read The Grapes of Wrath with traditional reading glasses. While I do wear contact lenses, I haven’t tried the acuvue bifocals. I may try them so I can move away from reading glasses. Thanks for the fun post.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo was a fantastic read and as poster above mentioned it needs to be on the list (Author is Brazilian).
But back on topic the acuvue bifocal contact lenses are fantastic, not from my perspective however from that of my best friends mother, she recently switched from regular contact lenses and reading glasses to the acuvue bifocals and is very happy, from what she tokd me it took just a little getting used to them but she is extremely happy.
My wife has started posting on this blog as she finds it both hysterical and informative. Hysterical because she can’t believe how many people are so interested in contact lenses and how many topics of conversations there are about and around contact lenses. Keep up the good work.
I found a way to earn off of other people buying contact lenses online. Check out this link:

I see that the accuvue bifocals are disposable. The article said they’ll last two weeks. I’ve had a pair for about 3 weeks now and they seem fine but I’m not going to overdo it. Any idea if its safe to wear them much beyond the 2 weeks recomended ?
I love acuvue contact lenses but did not like the Grapes of Wrath.
