Contact Lenses vs. Eyeglasses - 5 reasons Why Contact Lenses are better than Eyeglasses
Email This Post
Have you thought about trying contact lenses? If so you are not alone. There are an estimated 32 million contact lens wearers in the U.S. Whether you need corrective lenses for farsightedness, nearsightedness astigmatism or presbyopia, contact lenses offer many advantages over eyeglasses. Below are the top five reasons that have been reported as to why contact lenses are the superior alternative to eyeglasses:
1)Contact Lenses are more natural looking than eyeglasses. Contact lenses are seemingly undetectable once in the eye leaving the contact lens wearer with a more natural appearance. Not only are they more aesthetically pleasing but because contact lenses sit directly on the cornea of your eye they provide more natural vision than eyeglasses. With eyeglasses, there is distance between the lenses and your eyes and this makes objects appear smaller or larger than they actually are;
2) Contact lenses provide better peripheral vision & a wider field of vision. Regardless of which direction you look, contact lenses move with your eyes so you are always looking through the optic zone – which is the clearest part of the contact lens. With eyeglasses, when you move your eyes off center you are no longer looking through the optical center of your lenses. Additionally, contact lenses provide you a wider field of view than eyeglasses. Eyeglass frames partially inhibit peripheral vision;
3) Contact lenses are more comfortable than eyeglasses. 91% of contact lens users report that they have little to no sensation that they are even wearing corrective lenses. Contact lenses will never slide off of your face. Your infant won’t be able to grab them off of your nose and throw them into a pile of snow while you’re trying to open the car door, in the dark - with a bag of groceries in one hand, the supermarket receipt in your mouth and the baby in your other arm. They’ll never pinch your nose or rub against your skin and ears like eyeglasses do;
4) Contact lenses are better for the active person as they’re unaffected by weather and body heat. Unlike glasses, contact lenses remain securely on your eyes – even during activities like running or skiing. Eyeglasses tend to hop, fall off or not fit under sunglasses or ski goggles. Contact lenses unlike glasses, will not steam up from body heat or with sudden temperature changes (ie: getting in and out of a car in the winter);
5) Contact lenses provide for a near unlimited choice of sunglasses. Try to find a good selection of sunglasses that will fit over your glasses. With contact lenses you can take advantage of the wonderful range of generic or designer sunglasses on the market today.
Which contact lenses are best for you?
There are basically two types of contact lenses: soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses. Both can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Over 80 percent of contact lens wearers choose soft lenses.
The first step in determining the type of contact lens best suited for your visual needs is to have a complete eye exam and a contact lens evaluation with an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist.
If you already have a prescription or have additional questions there are some online sites that offer an Ask the Doctor feature which can help you chose between the myriad of brand names and choices available on the market today.

I definitely agree that contact lenses are superior to eyeglasses in almost every way. The only thing I like about my glasses is that they give me a different look from time to time.
I saw this on Yahoo and decided to come here to post my comment on this blog.
Why is this even a question, contact lenses are hands down better, no frames, they are disposable, no way I forget them anywhere or lose them, I hate the way I look with glasses.
I currently get my contact lenses at the eye Doctor however after seeing the pricing on http://clecontactlenses.com I will definitely be buying them here!!
Contact Lenses are also cheaper in the long run if you have infants and/or toddlers. Trust me I know. My 2nd daughter was born last December and between her grabbing my glasses and my other daughter who loves to hug me (especially my head) - 3 new frames by June! A friend of mine recommended contact lenses because he had gone through same situation. He also recommended clecontactlenses.com for their great prices on contact lenses.
Interesting points. I happen to like lenses better than contact too, but I never thought of it that way! Cool post!
I think there are more than 32 million contact lens wearers today. I heard that there are between 38 and 40 million people in the U.S. today wearing contacts. I also heard that acuvue was the most prescribed brand. It’s good to be the king.
Who wants to be called 4 eyes!!
too many advantages to contact lenses especially the acuvue contact lenses.
Hey post #3, you need to go to http://clecontactlenses.com and get some contact lenses. You a fool if you keep on buying new frames and keep lettin your daughters hug your head like that.
My Wife still wears glasses. I will have to have her read this as I have been trying for years to get her into wearing contacts.
Biggest reason for me living in SUNNY Cali is the sunglass aspect of wearing contacts. Gotta have cool looking shades on the Sunset Strip! I got a couple of SWEET looking pairs from cle at good prices.
You may see me wearing glasses day to day but not in bed baby! Always getting in my way from exploring ALL positions of the karma sumatra. Yeh Baby!
You can SEE what your doing in the shower or a swimming pool. So I’ll stick to contact lenses until someone has eyeglasses with windshield wipers! LOL
My glasses just fell off into my bowl of hot soup! Serious that happened to me once. Once I said - now I WEAR CONTACT LENSES!
Glasses in Soup? Karma Sutra?
You all a buncha fools. By the way Bo Diddley it’s Kama Sutra.
If I honestly knew it was gonna be that kinda party I would have stuck my glasses in the mashed potatoes and bought me a some nice acuvue contact lenses in the violet/purple shade.
Glad to see some new characters up here commenting. This blog is informative and now it’s taking on a fun aspect too. Contact lenses are a wonderful invention and while I still use glasses for reading I wear my contacts more than 80% of the time.
I’ll give you my 6th reason why contact lenses are better than eye glasses: I always forget where I put my glasses… doesn’t happen with contact lenses “they’re in your eyes stupid”
Why does that last post #15, sound like someone I know ?
Love the comic relief. Not only do I get a great deal on my contact lenses but they do not charge extra for the comedy routines on the blog.

Contact lenses are the clear winner everyone can see that!
The single most important reason I love contact lenses is that they make beautiful girls even more amazing to look at.
That’s it.
I prefer eyeglasses!! When I look tired, I can put on I got my glasses at eyeglasses and it will hide my tired eyes. Contacts can’t do that!
