The Next Generation in Replacement Contact Lenses

“Contact” Skiing

For those of our contact lens customers who love to ski, here are a few tips for keeping your lenses in the best shape while hitting the slopes this winter.

The goggles you choose are the key to keeping your lenses safe. Your best bet is a plastic frame ski goggle, as they hold up better in the cold than metal frames. We recommend a wraparound style. These offer your eyes the best protection from wind and snow (which will wreak havoc on your lenses). They also help block out incidental light from the sides, helping to minimize glare.

For the overall health of your eyes, make sure to use polarized goggle lenses. They absorb 98% of distracting glare reflected off the snow. You may want a goggle lens that is brown or amber in color as this will provide the best contrast against a white background, and is better for lower light conditions. Photochromatic lenses, which change color with changes of light, are also available, but are a bit more expensive.

Finally, make sure that your goggle is well ventilated so your contacts do not dry up. Remember to blink a lot, and carry rewetting drops with you as well, to help keep your contacts moist.

If you need to take your lenses out, make sure to go inside and use a cleared, clean areas, preferably with a mirror around.

If you drop one of your lenses in the snow, mark a three-foot circular patch in the snow around the drop zone, you will eventually find it. Get to the bottom safely and re-insert the lens indoors.

Happy Skiing!

I always wear goggles when I ski so I’m not afraid of the losing the lens. Drop it in the snow…. lots of luck finding it!

Definitely a consideration when skiing. Always wear protective gear ie. wind goggles with vents when skiing as well as helmets. Sure they may not look cool but save cool for the lodge when you cozy up next to your sweetie for some hot chocolate or a stein of bier.

Don’t make the fashion mistake of wearing glasses with goggles eaither, please wear the contact lenses folks, unless you want a player like me to steal your girlfriend.

Another thing to keep in mind if you snowboard or ski very aggresively than you must truly think about more than just your contact lenses, on a nasty fall I have seen one too many people out on the slopes get teeth knocked out and they have to get crowns or dental implants put in!!

Skiing is as much about fashion and style as it is about sport, I actually put on my hazel colored contact lenses when I go skiing as they are hip. Never thought too much about them falling out or safety on the slopes as I mostly stick to the bunny slopes and leave the black diamonds to the experts. I definitely would not wear anything other than contact lenses.

I plan on going skiing next week after the holidays. I’ll have my acuvue contacts on, polarized goggles to shield my eyes and my kids with their stuffed animals to boot. Enjoy the holidays everyone !

I hit the slopes this past weekend and the conditions were pretty good, however things got sloppy fast and crowded!!

Wearing contact lenses and skiing is a simple equation as the blogger put up, wear your goggles and you will not lose your contact lenses.

I can’t wait to get back out on the slopes. I had oakley’s on and they fogged up, they’re old. When they fogged up my contact lenses didn’t.

Great tip regarding the goggles. As with all power equipment…..don’t forget to wear them if you’re using your snowblower!!!

I don’t use my contact lenses when I go skiing but probably should. Last week I hit a tree because I couldn’t see it without my contact lenses. Sounds silly but it really happened.
